Dan Martensen was born and raised in Pleasantville New York. Involved in the arts since childhood, he picked up a camera at age 12 and would eventually study photography at the Rhode Island School of Design. Early on, he worked as an assistant to photographers Alex Cayley, Tom Munro, Stephane Sednaoui, and Annie Leibovitz.
